Kashf-ul-Mahjoob, Urdu translation

By Sayyid Ali bin Usman Hujweri

Kashf-ul-Mahjoob (کشف المحجوب), or Kashf al-Mahjub, is the first ever Persian book written on the philosophy and practice of Tasawwuf (Islamic Sufism). The author Hazrat Sayyid Ali bin Usman Hajveri is a highly celebrated Sufi saint of Pakistan, often called Data Ganj Bakhsh. The book was written in Farsi, but has been translated in many other languages. In Urdu alone, there are more than a dozen translations. The presented edition is one of the best Urdu translations by Allama Fazl-ud-Din Gohar, and published by Zia-ul-Quran Publications, Lahore, in 2010.

This is the most downloaded book on our website of Maktabah Mujaddidiyah, with more than 8000 downloads only during the year 2012. During the same year, it was viewed on Scribd for more than 40,000 times.

Sayyad Ali Hujweri (d.465 AH)

Hazrat Sayyad Ali bin Usman Hujweri Lahori (d. 465 AH / 1072 or 1073 CE), (سيد علي بن عثمان الهجويري) quddis sirrahu is the renowned Sufi shaykh of 5th century Hijri and is well known with his title Data Ganj Bakhsh. He was originally from Hujwer, a town in Ghazni (now Afghanistan), and later migrated to Lahore for the propagation of Islam and Sufism. He was a sayyid from the line of Sayyidina Imam Hasan, and his mother was from the line of Imam Hussain, may Allah be pleased with them both.

He wrote many books but all of them perished. The only title available today is the masterpiece of Sufism and the first book written on this topic in Persian, Kashf al-Mahjoob. This is the most popular book of Tasawwuf in the Indian Muslims. Sultan al-Auliya Shaykh Nizam al-Din Auliya (d. 725 AH) is quoted to have said: “One who does not have a Murshid will find a Murshid by the blessings of reading this book.”

Salam, undoubtedly you have done excellent job. just to share with others that other translation by Abdul Rauf Farooki is pretty much better in coherence, presentation and simplicity though some pages are missing. If any one can get one translated by publisher Feroz din and sons that is the best one in proofreading, coherence and presentation.
    Wa salam Alaikum
